When floodwater strikes the barrier from the outer side, hydraulic pressure pushes the vertical flood‑retaining panel. The outward thrust is transferred to the inner horizontal base plate via tension cables.
As floodwater flows over the base plate, the weight of the flood itself exerts downward anchoring force onto the plate. The higher the water pressure, the greater the water weight pressing down on the base plate. This increases friction between the base plate and the ground, making the flood barrier far more resistant to overturning or lifting. It achieves the effect: the higher the water rises, the firmer the barrier locks in place.
